Powerwall 3P brings a native three-phase Powerwall to Australia. It is not eligible for rebates yet.

Powerwall 3P is a single three-phase battery with a built-in solar inverter, which three-phase homes have been waiting for. It is still under Clean Energy Council assessment, so it cannot yet claim either battery rebate.

Powerwall 3P is Tesla's first Powerwall built for three-phase homes from the inverter up. It was launched to Australian installers at All Energy in Melbourne on 28 October 2026. It is not yet on the Clean Energy Council's approved battery list. Until it is, it cannot be installed under the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program or the WA Residential Battery Scheme.

That is the conclusion for anyone pricing a battery this month. The rest of this piece explains why the product matters for three-phase homes, and which parts of the specification are confirmed.

The three-phase problem it addresses.

Powerwall 3 is a single-phase unit. On a three-phase home, one Powerwall 3 sits on one phase. Backing up the whole house has meant one unit per phase, or accepting that only some circuits stay on during an outage.

Powerwall 3P is a single three-phase battery and hybrid inverter. Tesla describes it as "designed for three-phase homes" with "a compact design with an integrated solar inverter". Reporting on the European launch in April 2026 described full three-phase backup that can handle unbalanced loads. The Australian behaviour should be confirmed against the local datasheet before it is relied on for a design.

Many larger Western Australian homes are three-phase, particularly those with ducted air conditioning, a pool pump or EV charging. For those homes, one battery that supplies all three phases changes the design options.

What the published specification shows.

The figures below come from Tesla's European datasheet. Australian ratings can differ, so treat them as indicative until the Australian datasheet is released publicly.

ItemEuropean datasheet
Usable energy13.5 kWh (AC, beginning of life)
Rated AC outputConfigurable, up to 15.4 kW. Limited to 11.5 kW without solar or at higher temperatures
Peak output (1 second)21 kW for three-phase loads
Solar inputUp to 20.4 kWp, 4 MPPTs
Solar-to-home efficiency98.4%
ExpansionUp to 3 Expansion units at 13.5 kWh each
BackupBackup Gateway 2 required for backup
EnclosureIP67 battery and electronics, 138 kg, floor or wall mount, indoor or outdoor
Warranty10 years

Two details matter for planning. The 11.5 kW limit without solar is the more useful figure for evening and backup loads than the headline 15.4 kW. And four MPPTs make it practical to run three or four roof faces into one inverter, which suits the east and west arrays common on Perth roofs.

What is not confirmed yet.

  • Clean Energy Council listing. Tesla told installers on 6 November that the Clean Energy Council review has started, and that it expects a listing, first deliveries and first installations in December or January. That is Tesla's expectation, not a Clean Energy Council decision. Testing for CSIP-AUS, the communications standard used for grid connection, is also still in progress.
  • Rebate eligibility. The federal program requires a CEC-listed battery. The WA scheme requires the battery to be on the Synergy or Horizon Power supported list and enrolled in a virtual power plant. Neither applies yet.
  • Australian ratings. Australian continuous output, grid settings under AS/NZS 4777.2 and operating temperature range need the Australian datasheet.
  • Mixing with existing Powerwalls. Tesla's Australian support material, as reported by installers, says Powerwall 3P cannot be combined with Powerwall 2 or Powerwall 3. If you already have one of those, adding a 3P is not a straightforward expansion.
  • Price. Tesla has not published Australian pricing.

If you are planning a battery on a three-phase home now.

If your rebate timing matters, design around what is listed today. Current three-phase options can be eligible now, and the WA scheme's support levels change over time. If backup of the whole three-phase house is the priority and you can wait, Powerwall 3P is worth comparing once it is listed and priced.
