What needs
to stay on?

Keep everyday life going when the power goes out. Build an essentials-first brief, then bring it into your Energy Plan.

Open to everyone. No account needed to explore. Your research stays in this browser until you choose to add it to your Plan.

01

Start with everyday essentials.

Choose what matters to you. Appliance figures start blank; use the label, manual or measured running power. Leave a figure empty if you don’t know it.

02

Plan the hours you need.

Choose an outage duration, then set the total time each appliance would run within it. For a fridge, count the combined time its compressor runs.

03

Leave the bigger loads to assess.

Would you like any of these considered? They stay outside the estimates here. PSW needs the exact model, phase, starting demand and running time before including them in a design.

Powered medical equipment needs a separate outage plan with the equipment provider and your health professional. This household estimate cannot establish medical backup or uninterrupted supply.

How the estimate works

Appliance energy = quantity × running watts × total running hours ÷ 1,000. Running power = quantity × running watts, added across the selected appliances. Results are rounded for display only.

A cycling load’s running hours are not necessarily the outage duration. Ambient temperature, operating modes and actual use affect demand. Battery charge, reserve, conversion losses, standby use, equipment limits and solar availability need a separate design assessment.
